VM
Sneakers made 100% from recycled car materials
In this project I was tasked with creating a sustainable product. I decided to mesh my love of footwear with my interest in sustainable materials. The result is VM; a shoe made entirely from recycled car parts. The upper of the shoe is made out of materials sourced from a 1983 VW golf interior. The outsole is made from crumb rubber, which is ground up old tires, typically used in playgrounds or gym floors. I mixed the crumb rubber with epoxy resin and poured it into a 3D printed mold to create the outsole. I then created a pattern using my last, sewed my upper together, and glued it to the outsole. This project allowed me to experiment with materials while creating a wearable product which reduces the waste in landfills.
