70’s science fiction inspired lamp

For my final project in my first Industrial Design studio class, I was tasked with designing a lamp inspired by a science fiction film. My assigned film was Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Drawing inspiration from the unique lighting effects on the alien spaceships and the hypnotic shape of the iconic mountain, I created a lamp that reflects these elements.

The lamp’s base and shade are made from wood, laser-cut with the film's title spelled out in Braille. This both a tactile and visual design element is only visible when the lamp is turned on. The shade is removable and reversible, allowing the user to adjust the light output by flipping it in either direction for a brighter or dimmer lighting experience.
